Our state of well-being is defined as the experience of health, happiness and prosperity. It includes having good mental health, high life satisfaction and a sense of meaning or purpose, and ability to manage stress. The unpredictability we face in the global environment can negatively impact on our wellbeing, our joy, our happiness and our quality of life.
However, what if this same unpredictability can be the source of learning and growing, in both our personal and professional capacities?
If you have ever thought to yourself:
- Why do I feel like something is missing in my life?
- Why does this keep on happening to me?
- What do I want out of life?
- Why do I have so much drama in my life?
- What is meaningful to me in my life?
- I feel like I am going nowhere?
- What is holding me back and how can I break through my fears?
- How can I develop the growth mindset to follow my dreams?
- Why am I not happy?
Then this course is definitely in the right place at the right time. The changes we are facing in our world have led to a lot of people asking themselves what matters to them, and there is never a better time than now, to reassess your lifestyle and to look for ways to improve it going forward.
With the focus on practical exercises and tools, along with supporting theory, you will be provided with the necessary skills to not only manage your state of well-being in both your personal and professional capacities, but to become the person who is ready for the lifestyle you wish to create for yourself.

The ego, our operating system goes into "DOS" mode when under stress. Daniel Goleman, the father of emotional intelligence refers to it as the amygdala hijack, or as we call it in Beyond Thinking, "when the lizard hijacks the wizard". In this topic we will explore what happens when we experience the hijack and why we do so, and finally why it is important to manage our reactiveness for the sake of our wellbeing.
In this topic we explore some of the common reasons for hot buttons which activate the hijack. There is a saying – the caught fish never saw the hook, only the bait. As we raise our awareness around the bait, we then notice the hook, and we do not bite, and in so doing we become less reactive. Let’s explore!
You will recall, our stress hormones, adrenaline, and cortisol, activate the amygdala to go into shut down. As we manage our stress levels, we manage our reactive nature. In this topic we will explore some simple ways to reduce these stress hormones to mitigate our reactiveness
